Travels

For the past couple of years, it has just worked out that I have done one big trip a year. In the past it has been me leaving the summer temperatures for a winter one. Two years ago it was Australia/New Zealand, and last year it was South Africa. This year I stayed with the summer temperatures; I went to Europe! Yes, Europe - a lot of it.

My cousin Emily was living and working in London, but was coming home at the end of June. I knew that she was planning on travelling for most of June, so I told her that if she ever wanted a travel partner, let me know. I was thinking it would be a week or so, travelling to a couple of countries, and then I might do a little bit more travelling on my own. But it didn't happen that way. Instead, we (Emily, Aunt Hennie, and myself) went on a bus tour of Europe for 22 days, plus a few days in London. So I was gone for about a month. Now, all of this happened, including booking flights and the tour within 24 hours. Loved the spontaneity of it!

About 2.5 weeks later, I was boarding a plane for London! We spent a couple of days in London, with Emily being my tour guide (aunt Hennie had been to London earlier so it was a repeat for her). Some of the highlights were: Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Tower Bridge, Kew Gardens, and the Eye. One night we saw a Shakespeare play, Much Ado About Nothing, at the Shakespeare Globe Theatre. It was built to replicate the Globe as it had been during Shakespeare's time. Including having standing only tickets, and cushions to rent instead of just the wooden benches. So cool.

Our time in London quickly came to an end as we were on to our next adventure: exploring Europe for 22 days.
