A Story
Since I have started working with Athletes in Action, I have loved what they do and how they use sports, specifically soccer, to reach many people for Christ. As I was starting my first summer of camps, a friend was going on a tour with AIA. I didn't think too much of it, as I had my own summer of camps to look forward to.
Last summer, I went to BC to work as an intern for AIA Church Camps. As we were getting ready for camps, tours were also preparing for their summer. I had heard of many stories about past tours and was interested, but I never really thought of going on one. Then I went back to Ontario for camps. A couple of weeks into camps, my team went up to Ontario Pioneer Camp to be counsellors. One day I was wearing my AIA t-shirt and another counsellor came up to me and we started talking about our involvement with AIA. Turns out that he had been on a tour and loved it. After our conversation, he mentioned that I should apply for tour. I dismissed it, because I didn't think I was good enough to be on tour.
Late September, early October, AIA sent out a brochure with their opportunities for this summer. The South Africa women's tour caught my eye, as it mentioned doing camps for one of the weeks. It took me a couple more months to think about it, going back and forth between applying and not. But I felt God pushing me to do this, so I figured I would apply.
I applied and then forgot about it, with the getting back into the routine of homework and classes. A week and a half ago, I was accepted to go to on the South Africa!
So, I'm on my way to South Africa for two weeks in June. The first week we will be living, training, and playing with their womens under 19 team. The second week we will be supporting a local church. I am very excited for this tour and I can't wait to see how God will use this experience to challenge me and use me.
