The Chief and Whistler

A couple of weeks ago, I went on a hike up the chief with a couple of people from the office. Now, going into this “hike,” I pictured the leisurely hikes that I have done back home on the Niagara Escarpment (our “mountain”), where I was able to enjoy the view and God’s creation. Apparently, hiking in BC means something completely different. It means “let’s time ourselves to see how fast we can make it to the top.” So we made it up the third peak in about an hour. I definitely was not in “hiking” shape, so I slowed us down a little. But once we were at the top, it was amazing to see. Just beautiful. There were mountains all around, some with snow caps, a small waterfall, and then the city and water below. It was a little cloudly/hazing, but still clear enough that you could see. Then we went down. Again, this was a race to the bottom – I lost. Here’s some pictures from the top:Picture from the lookout, not even halfway up:
After the chief, we drove up to Whistler. We walked around Whistler village, went in a few shops, watched some mountain bikers, and took in the site of the 2010 Olympics. I wish we could have done more there, but we didn’t.
On the way back home, as we were driving through all the mountains, we stopped and took a few pictures. I love this one, with the different types of mountains, especially the snowy ones in the background – they’re huge!!
