Strawberries, Birthdays, and Training
Last week Saturday was the annual strawberry fest in Beamsville, which means that strawberry season is officially in full swing. I've been working at the strawberry farm for a couple of weeks now, first I started out weeding, but then we opened the PYO (pick-your-own) last week Tuesday. Its been great being back at the strawberry farm. It's the perfect job to have between greenhouse work and AIA. Since being back at the strawberries, I have gotten an awesome farmer's tan, my hair's getting highlighted by the sun, I get to eat all the strawberries I want, I've been able to catch up on my reading, and seeing the regulars is always good. a couple of people have even recognized me from last year, so that's pretty cool. I only have a week left at the strawberry farm which is bitter sweet. It's bitter cause this will probably be the last time I work there - its one of the better jobs I've had and the boss is awesome. Sweet because that means in one week I start AIA.
On Tuesday it was my Grandma Kikkert's 85th birthday, so obviously we celebrated it with style. All the Kikkert's (about 50 actually made it) went out for supper at the Mandarin. I'll admit, I'm not much of a fan, but it was pretty good. Tons of food! I was soo full, but it was a great time. We had a room to ourselves and just ate and hung out for a couple of hours. Grandma loved it.
Thursday and Friday were training days for AIA. Both Ontario teams got together and bonded, as well as going over what is expected of us during the summer. It was a lot to take in all at once, but it looks like it'll be a great summer. My team consists of Darren, Reuben, Alicia, and myself. Our first camp is ABK which is just north of Sudbury and we leave on Saturday. Soo excited!! I can't wait. Six more days :)
